Reading Recommendation

I think I can say, without too much hyperbole, that Collapse could be one of the most important books of our time. A careful and meticulously argued rumination on what makes societies of the past prosper or fail, it has deep implications for where the world is going. Jared Diamond is one of those rare thinkers who can link the detail to the big picture and navigate the myriad traps that await the 'environmental' thinker. His claims are modest but the implications will, one way or another, be catastrophic.

It's more complex than that but he does look at past societies and how they reacted to crisis situations. There is a great review of the book at http://www.newyorker.com/critics/books?050103crbo_books
